In this set of materials, the reading passage shows that a number of employees in the USA are willing to do a 4-day workweek with 80 percent of their normal payment. They claim that this is not only beneficial for the economy of the companies, but aslo dood for the employees who decide to do so. However, the professor in the listening material is against to the idea.& E7 d) H) i0 Y6 T1 e# K7 S) M
First of all, a 4-workday-week will force the company to spend more in all aspects in stesd of saving the cost. Hiring more employees makes the company cost money on providing training to the new staff . Also, the company must offer health ensurance, office space and computers to the new staff. That’s absolutely a high cost. However, the reading passage indicates that the shotened week would increase company profits.

That the companies will have other options rather than hiring more employees to accomplish the work. They may force the employees to work over time to achieve their goal. What’s worse, they will raise their expectations on the staff, which means that they want to let the staff finish their 5-day-work in 4 days. In this way, no additional jobs could be created and current jobs would be more unsatisfactory. Finally, the professor holds that it risks for employees to take a 4-day workweek option which may reduce their life quality. It will decrease the employee’s job stability and harm their chances of advancing their careers. They are more likely to lose their jobs when ecnomic resession occurs.As the companies prefer to 5-day-workweek employees, they might be passed over for promotion to ensore continuous coverage. But in reading passage shows that a 4-day workweek dould be better for individual employees.

And employ some more staffs to make sure the work will be done sophisticated. However, the speaker says that companies will cost much more money on this policy. First, they should put much money on the new employees train programs and  the medical benefits. Second more employees mean more space and more computer requirements which must cost much. Therefore, shorted days will not save money for the companies.

Furthermore, the writer states that there will be more job the ease the unemployment. Nevertheless, the speaker holds the opinion that there will not be extra job available for others. Additionally, the article provides that more leisure time will make the employees focus on their job when the work. Conversely, the speaker persists that it will become nothing but worse. Also the employees who take the option will pass over the promotion, for the companies need five day supervisors to manage the companies. Thereby, this policy will not change the staffs' lives better.
