UniversityofMinnesotaresearchersshowthatadultbonemarrowstemcellscanbeinducedtodifferentiateintocellsofthemidbrain.Thefindings,publishedintheonlineearlyeditionoftheProceedingsoftheNationalAcademyofSciences,suggestthatadultbone-marrow-derivedstemcellsmayonedaybeusefulfortreatingdiseasesofthecentralnervoussystem,includingParkinson'sdisease.
